Extended disk not visible in Win2008 server.

I have a Win2008 server running on ESX 4.0 connected to a NFS storage. The server has a 200GB (D: not system) disk that has been extended to 300GB. I have extended the disk in the VI-Client as well as in Disk Manager in Windows. However the disk is still only 200GB when looking in Explorer.

Anyone have any suggestions to why this is?

What tool did you use to extend the partition on the second drive? The builtin in Disk Management?

One thing that could be tried just to "kick at the disk" a bit is to use the "Shrink" utility there and lower the partition size again with 25 GB or something, and just see if that will update what-ever-is-missing.

Strange that Disk Manager sees the correct size, but not Explorer. You have of course tried to do a refresh of the Explorer view to rule that out?

What do you see if rightclick 😧 and take properties? What do you see if doing a "dir" in a command prompt?

I've tried refreshing and rebooting the server, same result. Right-click and Properties shows 200GB. Dir in the command prompt displays free space as if there is only 200GB of disk.

That seemed to have done the trick! I used the "shrink" command in Disk Managment and shrunk away the previously extended 100GB. After that i tried extending the disk again and this time the new space showed up in Disk Managment as well as in Explorer.

Thanks!
