Add host to cluster, make all existing host unavailable

Hi there

We have some problems adding more ressources to our production cluster.

We have 3 hosts running in a cluster with DRS and HA and using DVS and when i add a new host to the cluster, all existing host become unavailable.

The host is installed from cratch and afterwords the NIC driver is installed to gain network connectivity. The host is added to the cluster and then i aplied our host profile and adds the existing FC SAN disks. All the hosts are HP BL460c G6 servers on c-7000 enclosure with HP flex-10.

Then the server was rebooted and came up, then all hosts become unavailable. If i stopped the new hosts, then the existing host got available again.

If the new host is turned on it happens again, so iam afraid of putting new servers in the cluster now

Are we doing anything wrong here? What is best practice on installing and bringing more hosts in a existing cluster?

Think i read something about not have the SAN disk applied while installing the hosts, so it is like install host, add disks, put in cluster etc? or? Any clue on why this is happening?

When i look in the logs i havent find anything about this or why it do this. Could you put me in the right direction where to look?

Thanks in advance for your contribution on this matter

did you say you are using Host profiles after joining the host to the cluster? If yes, host must be joined to the cluster after updating and completing the networking configuration and other updates. Suggested:

1. When you create a new host, use the golden profile first to apply the master configuration settings.

2. Ping the host from other hosts.

3. Check the resolv.conf and hosts

4. Check the hostname is correctly defined and is in small letters.

5. Ping the host from the VC.

6. After verifying the above settings successfully, add the host to the cluster.
