Creation date tracking

I am looking for a way to graph or identify when VM's have been created.

The goal is to project future growth by reporting that we have virtualized x number of machines in y months, so we can trend our growth a little.

I know this isn't super accurate, but it is more evidence to prove I need more hardware, etc etc.

I would think this would be simple, but I cannot find a way to do so, that I can manage! There is a powercli, but I haven't been able to get it installed or working.

I was hoping there would be data in VC or something.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

maybe something like the below would be useful

unfortunately, though I can get the script to run the results are 99% Createdby unknown, Createdon unknown.

I *think this is because these guests were vmotion away from their original VC, so there is no creation date in the logs anymore.

Perhaps I am out of luck.

if you have a SQL DB, maybe the following advise will be useful

I am facing the similar problem. A couple of VMs out of the bunch shows the users and the date created.

Any reason as to why the output shows "unknown" or suggestions for the script to produce the desired result.

*The VMs have been running on the same VC and DB since their start.

A
