added Issue 02 to the feature request thread...
regarding Issue 01: is there a quick and dirty patch possible?
Issue 01: There are always pros and cons for each design. The current design would prevent instance counter starts at some huge number over time when it is not desired. If you really want to control the build instance counter the way it should increment, you can always use studiocli and specify the -i/--instance argument.
Issue02: This isn't an easy problem to solve because profiles could be sitting at any random location and etc. It's definitely a good to have feature though.
Regarding Issue 01: ok so it is a wanted design change of the instance counting?
The problem with this is:
when you have build an instance and have enabled "Retain transient VM on the virtualization platform" and a problem occurs the instance will stay powered on (that's ok!)
when I then delete this build and start a new one the build will stop because Studio has assigned the same instance id as the previous one.
The next thing is that you will lost the overview of how many builds it takes to come to a specific working version
there can be mistakes occur when keep this way of counting in troubleshooting!
My thoughts about a better solution:
Let the counter be specific to a Profile (each profile starts an own counting)
give the possibility to reset the counter for a specific profile
Is that something you could accept?
Thnx again for the feedback! They have been thought about before and would certainly be taken into consideration again.
thanks leong. I will add it to the FR thread, too
