Is he logged off or simply disconnected? There is a global session timeout under configuration, global settings of the View admin page that could possibly disconnect him after a time period.

the windows xp event log states, 'session disconnected'

the timeout is set to 600 minutes though, i have a hard time believing he was idle for 10 hours

The time specified in the global timeout value of View admin isn't an idle timeout. It's a hard timeout after you have been on for 10 hour thing.

Have a look at the DR server if you are running one - I had an exact issue like this and it turned out to be my backup window.

If not - not really sure outside of some sort of update that occurs at that exact time.

gotcha that makes sense as he usually logs in around 8-9am . i adjusted that value so we'll see if that does the trick (pretty sure it will). thanks again.
