a vm will not boot from an iso image

Hi all,

I have a vm that just will not boot from an iso image. It's a W2K8R264bit vm, the cd/dvd device is mapped to an iso image and set to connect at power on. The vm BIOS has been adjusted so that the cd/dvd dvice is first in boot order. The contenty of the .vmx looks fine but the vm will boot from dsik every time. I am not even getting the prompt to press any key to boot from cd/dvd.

There is nothing wrong with the iso as other vms can boot from it just fine. The problem vm will not boot from any iso at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John Balsillie

Are ATA ports enabled in VM BIOS?

You could also try selecting boot device during VM boot, go to VM Boot options using vSphere client, add delay to boot and press ESC on BIOS screen which give you boot order prompt.

That was it exactly!

In the vm's BIOS, the "Local Bus IDE adapter" setting on the Advanced page was set to Disabled. Changed it to Both and that fixed it. I can now start the vm from iso (cd/dvd).

Pressing Esc during vm startup and selecting cd as the boot device failed to boot from cd. Once the BIOS was changed, all was good.

Thank you.
