Hello,
I came across this statement recently:
http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/024974.htm
Oracle VM is the only x86-based server virtualization environment on
which Oracle products are supported; refer to MetaLink note 249212.1 for
more details.
Any comments on this? Especially regarding SAP. But more general terms are also welcome.

Oracle's support policy is unchanged. This is a typical "misprint" on the part of marketing folks unfamiliar with that support statement. If you are an Oracle customer you have access to MyOracleSupport & can read for yourself (249212.1). Unchanged policy = business as usual. Oracle customers deploying Oracle on VMware, deploy as you have been for years with confidence. If you want more insight, check VMware's post on Oracle support.
Has the wording changed at all from this? If so, someone please copy and paste.
Good link, thank you!

Oracle is supported on VMware since 14.01.2010 as per SAP Note 1173954.
Oracle 10.2.0.4 and higher (no Oracle 10.2.0.2, no Oracle 10.2.0.3,no Oracle 9.2.x)
Only Oracle single instance, no support for Oracle RAC
minimum recommended Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2008
VMware ESX 3.5 and higher will be supported (includes VMware vSpere v4)
Every customer opening SAP support calls needs to clearly signal in the first line of the message text that they are using a virtualized environment using VMware.
.... Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle databases
on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware.....
The Metalink note 249212.2 is not valid for SAP system.

Joerg

AFAIK Microsofts statement if pretty much the same, isn't it? If a problem occurs that also occurs on a real hardware we (Microsoft) help you. And (nearly) nobody gives a damn about that...all run Windows on VMWare.

Thanks for all the links, we ran Oracle on ESX for a number of years and didn't have any issues with TARs we created with Oracle. Although as posted the support policy from Oracle has been clear.
