What is the best way to backup my vms with vdr or vcb?
I have a datadomain device and I am thinking of mapping a unc share and backing it up there. What do you think?
We currently use VCB and haven't had any issues at all but due to the end of life announcement will be finding another backup method VDR will definitely be tested but we are also discussing the use of Avamar.

VDR has still several problems and issues but it's quite ok solution for backups. We are at the moment using simple script to just take copy from virtualmachines and then we move them to backup-fileserver. It's quite simple to do backups directly from ESX if you have spare local disk for example to hold backups before uploading to fileserver (then it doesn't even affect to LAN while taking backups, only when pushing backups to fileserver).
Best way is to use Veeam Backup. IMHO.

Hello,
UNC share or VMDK setting on NFS Windows 2003, StarWinds iSCSI.img where you will have your VMDK on it and you can backup to tape offline.
Checkout also FalconStor File-Interface Deduplication
You can protect your VMFS, Physical servers and restore them as VM, stapshots, replication , file-leve restores etc.
