Error when creating Virtual Data Recovery on Server

Hi,

I am getting this error when creating a VDR backup on a Windows 2003 Server. Other VM server works just fine. However, for this server I am getting this error message:

5/24/2010 5:31:09 AM: Normal backup using Backup Job 1

5/24/2010 5:31:12 AM: Failed to create snapshot for 'servername', error -3960 ( cannot quiesce virtual machine)

5/24/2010 5:31:12 AM: Task incomplete

Anybody have any idea what this error ID meant?

Thank you.

Collin

Can you try manually snapshotting the VM?

If you uncheck memory state and check quiesce guest file system option when attempting the manual snapshot then this will mimic the snapshot operation that VDR initiates.

Also, make sure the vmware tools are up to date on the VM.

I already re-install VM tools and did the same thing.

I did the manual snapshot with check quiesce guest file system option and failed.

Error:

Create virtual machine snapshot

'servername'

Cannot create a quiesced snapshot because the create snapshot operation exceeded the time limit for holding off I/O in the frozen virtual machine.

Try taking a look at this thread:

http://communities.vmware.com/message/1372061

It has a lot of good information about why the OS may have trouble being quiesced and troubleshooting steps to try.

I compared the services from the other VM server and the VM Snapshot Provider is missing from the services. Is this can cause the issue?

I think I just figured out what was the problem. I uninstall the VM tool completely (took couple of times) and finally install all necessary services. Now, everything works fine. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what was the cause but I uninstall VM tool manually from the VM Server couple of times and install again. Finally all necessary services are installed.

Thank You.
