The T610 comes with PERC 6/i RAID controller standard. I am wondering if there are any tools for monitoring that RAID available with ESXi Essentials. Maybe that is something that one has to find at Dell? Anyone running a config like that?
I have a client who wants to do replacements for his servers using VMWare. File Server, Print server for an iSeries and Sharepoint server.

The Dell Customized ESX/ESXi install has the best chance of having additional monitoring tools. Although you can probably do what you're talking about (which is rather unclear) with a vCenter Server connecting to the host.

Thanks, I was hoping someone was running ESXi on a Dell and had experience. I just want to be able to monitor the status of the RAID without resorting to BIOS. I will query the groups at Dell.

Dell's PERC 5i and 6i controllers are fully supported regardless of ESX build (the Dell build is not needed) for hardware monitoring. With essentials you can configure alarms through vCentre Server to email if you get an issue.
To view the hardware health from vSphere client you need to add the vCentre Hardware Status plugin via plug-in manager in the client itself.
For hosts not managed by vCentre you can use a health monitoring script such a that by lamw on here.

Hi,
i would recommend you to use the dell customized one.
You will able to monitor the dell server hardware in a tight way.
It works pretty well

Thank you both. I think I will have enough time to try both versions.
