Hi,
i got some images for testing purposes from our dev team. When I opened and started the vm (XP client network booting from a virtual debian server) I got the question "moved or copied" and I clicked copied.but I should have clicked "moved"...I should have better read the instructions before... .... now I got the problem that bootmanagement options (they have s.th. to do with the mac adresses of the client in the vm) don't work anymore and I can't start the client ....
Have you got a hint how I can change that now, because it's not so easy for me to get the image within the next days again....
you can try to configure the old MAC again in the vmx - see
http://sanbarrow.com/vmx/vmx-network-advanced.html
Not sure if this works as the range allowed for automatically assigned IPs is different from the allowed range for manual edits ...
To find out the old MAC real the oldest vmware.logs from that VM

You won't necessarily need the whole image, it's just the vmx file. Maybe they can email you this file.
If you still have your first vmwareXX.log files you could probably recover the original settings.
Search the logs for "\[msg.uuid.altered\] This virtual machine may have been moved or copied."
Some lines above you find the old "location-UUID".
Copy the UUID and replace UUID.location as well as UUID.bios in the vmx file with this value. Then take the last three parts of the UUID and change the MAC address to e.g. "00:0c:29:xx:yy:zz"
Make sure you backed up the files prior to manually editing.

thanks to the repliers!! I will ask the dev team to send me the .vmx file
