Workstation GUI automatically pops open upon user login (Windows XP)

I installed VMware Workstation on Windows XP and have been having some weird issues with it. The GUI pops open after a user logs in to XP. I've tried disabling the tray icon from the Workstation preferences but it still brings up the tray icon anyway and pops open VMware. I've tried rebooting a few times as well to see if the problem would go away after boot.

Ideally I want VMware to run in the background with users having no idea whatsoever that it is even there and running a VM. I'm having trouble finding info online about this. Thanks

sounds like you have added Workstation to the autostart.

Maybe you have a shortcut in ...startmenu\startup ?

Thanks for the response but that is not the case. It seems to only do it after a reboot. Once closed it seems to not pop back up again.

Make sure it's not in the startup section when you run a msconfig (start/run/)... If you right click on the system tray icon, and close/exit it, you should have a prompt about not starting it up ever again... I did that and the icon has not reappeared (on startup) since...
