Vsphere vcenter health status changed alarm

Hi guys,

We have a new vsphere vcenter and this alarm keeps going off. When we looked at the events, we can't find anything that triggered it.

The setting at the moment is

triggers :

event = status change

staus = alert

Actions :

SNMP trap once when yellow to red

email repeat when yellow to red and once when red to yellow

Any idea why this is happening? I have to manually reset alarm to green to stop it from alerting

thanks!!

Oh one more thing - from the alert below, is it actually going to yellow or is it going to red?

Target: Datacenters

Previous Status: Green

New Status: Red

Alarm Definition:

()

Event details:

(vCenter) status changed from green to yellow

have you checked vCenter Service Status from the home page to see if there is anything needing attention?

Yep i did. all services are fine. I checked all hosts too and they seem fine...I read from this post here that when the virtual center does sync (e.g. storage view update), it creates status change?

I'm wondering how can you configure the alarms so that it won't just alert on anything?

Are we supposed to put anything in the "advanced" conditions

thanks

Our alarm is configured with the default settings. The only time I have seen this alarm get triggered is if I reboot the vCenter Server. Once it comes back online that alarm gets triggered. I wish I had a better answer, but for myself, I'm still trying to get my head around all the alarms in vCenter4

This may be somewhat useful
