Hi, is it any one that can tell me if vmWare ESXi 4.0 U1 have support or not for the Promise SuperTrak EX8650 SATA card?

In the hardware support guide i find that VmWare should have support for the Promise SuperTrak EX8650 SATA card but only in version ESX 3.5 is this card not supported för ESXi 4.0 U1 or what?

From the hardware guide!

Hi,

maybe this controller disk is supported by ESX 3.5 but not by ESXi 4.0 U1.

You have to think about the minimal ESXi's footprint compared with ESX. Then is very easy your sata controller is supported in ESX but not in ESXi

Anyway check this for to be 100% confident: http://communities.vmware.com/blogs/virtually_noob/2010/02/19/esxi-compatibility-guides

From what you have shown in your post it looks like support for the card was dropped in ESX(i) 4x. It is possible that the drivers included in ESX(i) 4 would work with your card but Promise/VMware do not support it. If the rest of your hardware does support ESXi 4 then you could give it a try.

This means that Promise has not delivered
testing reports to VMWare on ESX 4.0 for your card.
Contact your vendor (Promise) and ask them when the card is going on the
HCL.

That aside - My experience with Promise products is that they develop
them, release bug fixes/firmware/drivers for a few months and then
abandon the product (and release a new shiny card, like the SAS card you
mention). Stay away from Promise is the best advice I can give you.
