Black boxes in View session: Disable Bitmap Caching?

We have a classroom of students using View on Wyse C90 thin clients (XPe). We have an issue where the View Window will begin to randomly fill with black boxes, until it is completely taken over with them. I am thinking this is due to bitmap caching, but I'm not sure how to disable it, whether through a GPO or if there is a manual registry setting I can change? The image I've attached is just an example I found on the net, to give you an idea of what's happening. Thanks for any help.

This is a setting on the Wyse Client if a remember correctly.

Well, I know with VDM I had to make a couple registry tweaks when this happened, but I don't see these readily available with View. Here is the knowledgebase article I keep bookmarked for it: Black boxes in VDM.

Add your ADM files from the View Server to your AD. You are able to adjust all of these settings through the custom VMware GPO's. We had to disable Bmap Cache as well.

Thanks, that definately helps.

Does anybody know of a way to do this other than GPO? I've got a lot of Wyse clients that aren't joined to our domain.

You can do this and many other settings by customizing your wnos.ini

Our clients are all XPe. Thanks though.

also ensure you have the latest RDP build for XP on both client and source vPC.

Ok try this. RDP settings are actually pulled from a file in My Documents that is hidden called Default.rdp. Create yourself a template and push this file to all of your off domain desktops. Open the default.rpd with a text editor and change the following value. bitmapcachepersistenable:i:1 to bitmapcachepersistenable:i:0

Your Default RDP file should look something like:

screen mode id:i:1

desktopwidth:i:1920

desktopheight:i:1200

session bpp:i:32

winposstr:s:2,3,43,0,1600,1010

compression:i:1

keyboardhook:i:2

displayconnectionbar:i:1

disable wallpaper:i:1

disable full window drag:i:1

allow desktop composition:i:0

allow font smoothing:i:0

disable menu anims:i:1

disable themes:i:0

disable cursor setting:i:0

bitmapcachepersistenable:i:1

full address:s:##############

audiomode:i:0

redirectprinters:i:1

redirectcomports:i:0

redirectsmartcards:i:1

redirectclipboard:i:1

redirectposdevices:i:0

autoreconnection enabled:i:1

authentication level:i:2

prompt for credentials:i:0

negotiate security layer:i:1

remoteapplicationmode:i:0

alternate shell:s:

shell working directory:s:

gatewayhostname:s:

rudack and Troy Clavell,

my oppinion: by the looks of it vmware view client has a built in RDP client, it's not using native RDP client of OS, so installing latest RDP client on client side or doing any machinations with default.rdp probably won't work

This is easy to test now, install latest RDP 7.0 compatible client on XP (XPe), connect with using all monitors to Win 7, you will get true multimonitor experience.

Perform same using View client, you will get same as you get using 6.1 RDP - spanned 2 screens, not 7.0.

adamstrick,

did you install latest View 4 client on your C90L? as default build comes with 3.1.2 client.

as well, try adding same registry key manually for View client into registry in HKLM though, maybe it will work Smiley Happy similar key exists there.

hope this helps,

Andr3y

We are having a similar issue with PCOIP connections...do you think the solution of disabling bitmap caching will also apply?

i'm not sure if PCoIP has any caching... try to check with VmWare support team. Try to load adm template and play with settings.

Cheers,

in addition to my previous post. If you load vdm_client.adm administrative template from c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\Extras\GroupPolicyFiles on your View server to your client Group Policy editor, then you will see as per attached Vmware View Client configuration. Once you configure and disable Bitmap caching following registry key will appear in HKLU :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\Client\RDP Settings\BitmapPersistence = false.

So you just need to apply this key to your target user by loading NTUser.dat via regedit.

Hope this helps,

Andr3y
