vswitches ? Workstation uses Hubs - no vswitches.

Anyway - I guess you need to setup the server with two virtual nics - one connected to the internet and one connected to the intranet.

Do you have two physical nics in the host ?

I guess we need more info on your network ...

I haven't got two nics installed. But my understanding is that I could assign IPs virtually using VLSM

If it's easier I could install another one I have. Then I would assign one subnet to eth0 and another to eth1.

eth0 > internet

eth1 > intranet

Is this in the right direction? If I figure how many subnets I need I'll see how to work out the installation

thanks for your reply

Tell that to the documentation team!

LOL - I tried to do that since years ...everybody here knows that the documentation is wrong.

A switch that behaves like a hub IS a hub 😉

everybody here knows that the documentation is wrong.

Sure many of us, myself included, that have been around a while and help here know that however the OP most likely doesn't and saying something like "vswitches ? Workstation uses Hubs - no vswitches." without some explanation only confuses new users especially since the documentation calls them switches.

I'm actually surprised that VMware hasn't been sued for continuing to perpetrate this lie.
