Hi,
I've been having this problem since the day I installed Version 7.
The service won't start and the VM's give an error that the arbitration service won't start.
I now understand that the SonyEriccson could be the culprit. I uninstalled. still having the problem.
I have gone thru the usb. drivers in \windows\system32\drivers and verified that they are indeed the originals that came with windows 7. They seem to match.
Can someone help me out? Is there a way to reaplly these drivers? I can't even find them on the 7 disc.
What is vmware looking at when this error is generated? Is it a registry entry I need to remove, is it a driver I need to delete?
Any ideas would be most welcome.
Thanks

I have the same Problem.
And it is critical to some VMs I am producing -- Web Camera & transcription foot pedals.
Thought the new Version 7 paired with Windows 7 would provide some stability versus Vista 64. Time will tell.
The VMware USB Arbitration Service is showing as Startup type "automatic" and Status "blank."
Both Workstation and Player tools log an error message of
"Host USB device connections disabled."
The service is NOT starting with the Host login or with the VM startup in Workstation 7 or Player.
Changing the service login does not affect this. Run as Administrator does not also.
Starting the service manually from the service listing window (Right mouse- Start) enables USB devices to then connect through the VMware tools.
It is also listing several unnecessary devices on the Guest (e.g., PCI bridges) in the safely remove dialoque.
But that is a different issue.
This is a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise fully patched
then VMware Workstation downloaded and installed.
It has nothing else on it.
A timely solution would be nice.
Set the USB Arbitration service as "Automatic - Delayed" instead of the default.
Depending on the system, the startup at system boot will fail ... if you have it as a delayed startup service ... it seems to work fine. This worked fine for me on my home computer.
As for why it doesn't start up at all .... you got me on that.

Setting the service to automatic - Delayed worked!
Needs to be installed this way, I think....
Many thanks!
