Unattended deployment of VMware Tools (Reloaded)

Hi.

This unpleasent topic seems to popup for me once again. In the past we had successfully solved the problem on ESX 3.5 with the following command line:

setup.exe /s /w /v"/quiet /norestart"

however with 4.0 this no longer works.

It seems that seup.exe of Version 4 is parsing the options you pass through to the installer via /v option and the only one it accepts is /qn.

Any other params you try to pass through seems not to be accepted by setup.exe.

So what to do if we want to supress reboot on unattended installation?

We also tried to directly install the msi via msiexec but this only works on new installs and not on updates.

We also tried to uninstall and reinstall via msiexec unattended but this only seems to work reliable if you reboot between uninstall and install.

Does anybody have some additional ideas how to solve this problem?

Thanks.
