ESXi U1 install

Hi,

I have attempted to install ESX 4i U1 to two existing servers, both build 175625.

One appeared to work and is now running build 208167.

The other however appears to have not changed its build number. The Host Update Utility scans it and decides it is "up to date".

Any advise appreciated.

Wow, did you upgrade using the downlaodable file or using the Host update utility ?

Kind Regards,

Well I can report one thing.

The install disabled iSCSI on both servers. I reenabled fine manually.

Same here. Same build, same result : Host is up-to-date. (but it is not). Tried reboot, nothing helps.

Yes!

I have this sorted out.

We don't run Nexus so I'm unsure why one of my servers had the Nexus update installed.

I removed it using the following guide:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101247...

Host Update Utility then updated my servers correctly.

The problem here would be that only the original poster (me) can mark a question as answered.

Since I can't give myself points for answering it, there's not a lot I can do.

You can mark it answered though. That would be helpful for others searching for solutions.

Marking it answered isn't a problem though. The "Mark as answered" is just below ant to the left of the Points Icons at the top of the post area.

I think that means you answered two things in a single post. Smiley Wink Not bad.

I think the same thing is happening to me, but my problem is that I have the free version so I can't use the CLI.

My hosts say they are up-to-date but they are only at 175625. I've only used the host update utility so I probably did install this update that's not letting me go any further.

Anything I can do with the free license of ESXi to get it to U1?

You should always start a new post and fully explain your problem. In this case the question is marked answered and so it can get ignored. List as much information as relevant. Hardware you are installing on. The steps you took. Any error messages you got.

Even with the free version you can use the CLI tools. Just download them and use it to remove the package.

I run the free version and used the CLI tools to do just that, all works fine now.
