Install VMWare Workstation 6.5 on Ubuntu 9.10 (Finial)

I saw some other postings, but no answers yet, I am trying to install workstation 6.5.3-185494 on Ubuntu 9.10 x64 and I am getting to 62% of "Configuring" on the Install of VMware Player 2.5.3 and stuck. Any soultions?

Doh, never mind, doing the old "export VMWARE_SKIP_MODULES=true" before the install and then installing the modules afterwards did the trick.

I have a very strong feeling that it is the exact same issue as what I encountered when installing for Fedora Core 11. The solution in that case is to rename /etc/vmware/database to /etc/vmware/database.bak and delete away /etc/vmware/database.lck when it stuck at 62% (from another bash shell) then you will get pass that install process. After that, rename /etc/vmware/database.bak to /etc/vmware/database. Smiley Happy

Search for FC 11 6.5.3 here in this community for more info.

Hope that will help you.

Perhaps, however I was able to get everything installed by skipping the installation of the modules on the inital install. Then when I tried to open the application it installed the modules without any more problems.

Seems for at least Ubuntu 9.10 the fix was:

# chmod +x VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.x86_64.bundle
# export VMWARE_SKIP_MODULES=true
#./ VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.x86_64.bundle

Lastly, thanks for the details on what you found, perhaps with that the powers to be can fix their bundle. ?:|
