Does anyone know when update 1 is suppose to come out.

I could not attend Vmworld, was it announced.

I hear that it might be in October?

VMware View 4.0, which will require ESX(i) 4 Update 1, is scheduled for release on Nov 19th so we should see update 1 on that date or earlier. and

Great, Can't wait until next week to upgrade the ESXi host on my production system.

Hopefully I dno't have to reformat the ESXi datastore.

You wont need to - updates/upgrades haven't required reformats in at least 2 years.

Wow, I just knew 😐 so even ESXi I don't need to shutdown the Host, bring down to "maintenance" mode is more than acceptable for me.
