I'm trying to boot the installation for ESXi 4.0 just to make sure it works on this box since the plan is to use it as my lab server and buy a new workstation. I've tried using both DVD-ROMs but with the same result.
All SATA devices are running in AHCI mode if that matters.
Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi/AP
C2D E6600
4x1GB RAM
2x300GB SATA2
2x120GB SATA
1xDVD SATA
1xDVD EIDE
CD was verified by Nero after burning so I assume it's OK.
Thank you RMRobert. Glad to know that the TPM error is not a big concern.
Hello
The error on ESXi 4.0
Failed to load tpm
Failed to load lvmdriver
appears here too.
I have a
ASUS® P6T6 WS Revolution
with Intel 2,67 GHz (Core i7 920)
Onboard devices:
RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE6121 SATA II Controller
ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3450
Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) 2 port SATA IDE Controller
etc.
Is there a recommended NIC (if that would be the problem) with PCI-Express?
Until now I'm having the problem that some Linux OS'es don't recognize the SAS controller.
Would ESXi 4.0 run with only 2 SAS Drives in RAID 0 mode and a Marvell Controller?
ESX(i) is meant as a server operating system and consequently it does not have wide hardware support, especially for desktop components. You should be looking at the hardware compatibility list for supported hardware and making your choice from that list. There are lists of unsupported hardware that people have made work. Have a look at http://vm-help.com for unsupported hardware compatibility.
I'm having the same problem as everyone else on this thread. I've been a VMWare proponent for a long time and have used various versions of ESX for production use. I have also used VMWare Server for personal and development environments. With Microsoft, Citrix, and XEN making a strong run into the Hypervisor arena, I think it is very narrow minded for VMWare to take a stance of not supporting Desktop hardware. Almost everyone I know uses less expensive desktop hardware to evaluate new products before proposing to purchase new Server class hardware. Maybe this is the influence of EMC showing up in VMWare products. I hope not.
With any luck the next revision of ESXi 4 will include a wider range of supported hardware.
ESX has always been a server OS with a very narrow hardware support list. It used to very very limited. It is intended for production. You can find sub 1000 servers and if you look a bit.4 or 5 hundred.
Hello all.
I'm getting the same error messages.
I'm installing ESXi 4 on a HP DC5750 (Athlon 64 X2 6G mem)
First there was an error regarding the disk controller during installation, solved that by loading the ahci-module and creating a new oem.tgz (with only the ahci-specific line in it)
Disabled the on-board Broadcom card since it isn't supported and bought an Intel PRO/1000 GT, re-installed, added my own oem.tgz but I'm getting the "Failed to load lvmdriver" aswell, suggestions?
Regards,
Martin
I see this thread kicked off in May and it's now October. Can anyone
from VM comment on whether Realtek drivers will be supported in an
upcoming maintenance release of ESXi 4.0 or a future version? Thanks in advance.
Realtek is used in low end devices. Has been known to fail at load. I would find something on the Hardware Compatibility List.
VMware is typically pretty tight lipped about future releases and personally I wouldn't bet on seeing a realtek driver. If you need at 8111/ 8168 there's one for download here - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php.
