Can not add serial port to the physical port

the env is like follows:

-

1, physical server HP DL360-G5

2, VMware Esxi 4

3,Guest WindowsServer 2000

-

when I want to add a serial port to the Guest OS ,the option of Physical port displays gray out,

while I succeeded on the ESX3.5

Does the function become restricted from ESXi,or I have update the VMwareESXi for the lastest drivers?

You can not add serial port with ESXi, full ESX is needed.

I am having this problem as well.

I have an Intel S5500BC motherboard.

I cannot find what you refer to 'Full ESX' anywhere and am using ESXi 4

See:

ESXi cannot virtualize local serial/paraller interface.

Maybe you can try with VMDirectPath I/O, but I'm not sure that it can work.

I have been looking at the Product listing and cannot find the ESX product, I can only find the ESXi product.

How can I obtain and try this ESX product?

if your virtual machine can't conntect to  physical serial port directly on host.

i think there is other way instead:

because the virtual machine can connect to physical USB port,

you can find a usb to serial port converter adapter.

so you can visit serial port device via usb on host.

hope it help.
