Partition alignment

Hi to all,

i have a big question about how to do the partition alignment in ESX4..... I have installed esx4 with 2 store, change block size and now i want to make partition alignment.... I have noticed that if I delete the second store,i can't re-create the store so i don't align the partition in this mode......

How can i do the alignment? fdisk? how? using VI i can't, so i don't have any idea!

Thanks for the answers!

The partitions in ESX4 created with Virtual Center will automatically be aligned

If you delete the datastore from vSphere Client you must be able to create a new datastore (aligned by default).

Not that the first datastore in ESX 4.0 (the one with the COS vmdk file) cannot be re-aligned.

Hi to all,

i have follow the steps for the partition alignment with fdisk but i have some problems: first this procedure doesn't work if vmware system is load because i can't modify the partition table because the disk is in use.... so i had new idea: i run the vmware installation cd, i press "ctrl + f2" to view the shell console and i did the alter of partition table....when i reboot the server vmware starts correctly but the esxconsole doesn't work!!!

P.s: i have 2 store: Storage1 where i put esxconsole(and i didn't align this partition) and storage2 that is unused and i did partition alignment with fdisk.....

Where can i do the partition alignment with fdisk if in shell doesn't work and with cd it corrupted the system??? (I have attached a screenshot with the error that appen after I modify partion table from vmware's installation cd....

Thanks to all for the answers! (if there are any solution for this error,I appreciate the responses)

Can you logon on your ESX console?

Check network connectivity and check the output of esxcfg-vswif -l
