Check for missing files failed: Insufficient permission to access file.

I have just installed an eval version of WS6 on a new notebook running Vista Home Premium, hoping to avoid this error, previously encountered using WS Viewer 6 on the same machine. No luck.

I am the Administrator on the machine and have ensured that I have Full Control on all folders and files. One odd thing is that I cannot get the Read Attribute to turn off. I go through the steps and it appears to be cleared, but on returning to the browser, Read is on again.

The images are installed on a WD Passport USB drive, and they all run perfectly with WS5 on an older notebook.

Thanks for any insights.

Not sure why this worked but the important thing is, it did. Had exactly the same problem with VMW 6.0.3 on Vista Ultimate. I was a local admin with full control over the VM files and folder by being a member of the Administrators group. However, I added my account to the ACL with full control and problem went away. Probably another Vista "feature".

Yes, UAC: to protect you from .. er, um, yourself?

Off topic, but you don't really run programs with full administrator permissions, even if you log on as administrator. You might want to have a look at these articles:

and

BTW: I have not tried his "power toys", my host uses sudo Smiley Happy

I ran into this problem for the first time today after running VMware Workstation 6.x for over 6 months. The error appeared on VM's that I have been using for months. I "got around" the issue by choosing "Run as Administrator" when launching VMWare Workstation. The only change I made last night was to install the VMware Disk Mount utility, maybe this is the cause of the problems? I'm using Windows Vista Business.
