Update with subscription option

I notice there is a 12-month subscription option for 20$ extra when upgrading to Fusion 3. Is it worth it at this point? Can we assume major releases within the next year?

If you want the subscription then wait as long as possible to upgrade.

You will notice in the release history listed below that major releases run an average of 57 weeks.

Some bonehead created a subscription option that at least for the first 6 to 8 weeks makes no sense at all.

So it's a gamble to pay an extra $20 to possible save $20. Better to skip the subscription or wait until January to upgrade,. Then the subscription will almost for sure pay off.

Lets look at some facts...

VMware Fusion 1.0 was released on: Aug 6, 2007

VMware Fusion 2.0 was released on: September 15, 2008

VMware Fusion 3.0 was released on: October 27, 2009

So if version 4 follows the same it too will be over a year before it will be released and therefore everyone who buys to soon will in all likelihood not get the next version for free and has wasted $20!

So it sure looks like the only ones that will benefit are the ones that wait at least another 5 maybe 6 weeks and then they will most likely fall within that 12 month window based on past release schedules.

So that's $20 US for the word if ! Smiley Wink
