pearlyshells Oct 9, 2009 7:09 AM (in response to weinstein5)Yeah....that's going to be the rub. Our VirtualCenter dbase is on a SQL server managed by our database team. I'll have to coordinate with them to see if they can back it up or make me a copy for testing.

pearlyshells Oct 9, 2009 7:13 AM (in response to pearlyshells)another thought. What if we ask to backup the database. Perform the conversion, do the tests on the VM and if all goes well, down the VM ...power up the physical VirtualCenter and upgrade it. Will the upgrade to the physical VirtualCenter cause issues with the database on the SQL server since it would have vCenter information already? Or, will it not care at all.

4. Re: Converting Physical VirtualCenter Server to VM for testing
pearlyshells Oct 9, 2009 12:28 PM (in response to pearlyshells)new revelation. Our Server Admin has advised me that the VirtualCenter server is going out of lease so we'll replace it anyway with a 64bit server.
So, under that situation, I'm thinking that I'll just install a fresh vCenter4 on it , instead. Then, I'll create a license server and point to my license file and connect it to the SQL database instance. Shouldn't that work?
