can't see default host application

I don't see the "default host application" in the context menu under "open with". It does not appear when choosing files on the C drive, or when choosing files in a shared folder. I enabled sharing and checked the box to allow VMware to open apps on the Mac. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VMware tools several times.

VMware 2.0.4

Mac Pro 2x3ghz dual-core Xeon

Mac OS 10.5.7

In Windows XP if you right-click a file that resides in a VMware Shared Folder and select the Open With menu and do not see "Default Host Application" this is normal if you have never opened that file type before in that Virtual Machine and you would need to select Open With > Choose Program... > Default Host Application and it will open the file in the Host's default application for that file type and from that point forward for that file type then "Default Host Application" should then show directly on the Open With menu.

I happen to be running Windows 7 in a VM in VMWare Fusion. I have application sharing turned on in both directions. I can open a file on my Mac with an application inside the VM. I see those applications in the "Open With" list. However, what I can't see inside the VM is the choice for "Default Host Application" when choosing "Open With". Do I need to browse to this somewhow? And if so, to where? If its just supposed to be in the "Open With" dialog box, then something is wrong here. Any assistance is appreciated.

By default the Default Host Application entry will not appear on the Open with context menu. Also by default when you select Choose default program... you will not see Default Host Program under Other Programs until you click the down arrow to the far right of Other Programs on the Open with dialog box.

After that file type has been opened once with the Default Host Program then the Default Host Program entry will appear on the Open with context menu for that file type.

Thanks.. was just coming back to reply that I'd found it. Thanks for the screen shorts though. Maybe they will help someone else.

Hm. I see no options besides the windows apps in "open with." I've tried selecting the default Windows app, but it only launches the relevant Windows file. "Open With" shows no other options on the second attempt.

If I can't fix this I can't use VMWare. I'm running W7-64-bit on 10.6 with VMWare 3.
