Anyone find best practices for these things with ESX? Hyper threading on/off? Turbo bost on/off? VT-d on/off? etc.....
getting this error in vmkwarning - any ideas?
WARNING: CpuSched: 17543: unable to set HT quarantining,

Hi
-Hypertherading can help when there are more vcpu requests. Below link explains in detail
http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-5101
- VT can be used to enable EVC in a cluster. helps in haivng hosts of differnet CPU model in the same family.
- dont have more info regarding to turbo. As i know, it will improve the processing capabilities, incase if there is a contention.
Hope this helps!
Hi.
I too found the same message on my DL380G6.
"Nov 4 12:38:13 esx01 vmkernel: 0:00:00:00.001 cpu0:0)WARNING: CpuSched: 17543: unable to set HT quarantining, machine_clear event is NULL"
Checking the /var/log/vmkwarning I noticed this entry is written at boot time.
My BIOS settings for Processor Options:
Intel Virtualisation Technology : Enabled
Intel Hyperthreading Options : Enabled
Processor Core Disable : All Cores Enabled
Intel Turbo Boost Technology : Enabled
Intel VT-d : Enabled
Are there any thoughts as to how this message is derived?
Regards,
Darren.
Hi Darren,
You can ignore that warning, in a future release of ESX 3.5, this message should not pop up on any platforms beside Pentium 4. The issue, HT quarantining was designed to prevent, should not be present on any other architecture. Besides, the machine_clear event is not even defined on the CORE family, this message is only vestigial.
Cheers
