Can VMWare be made to use a single core or processor to meet Oracle licensing?

Can VMWare in a quad core be made to use two of those cores? Oracle licensing, I believe, will allow two cores to be counted as one for their license of "one" processor. I could use the other two cores for something else with another VMWare instance. Thanks.

yes you fix the affinity of virtual CPU to a physical core so that the vCPUs run only on those cores -

The short answer is no, Oracle specifically define vmware as 'soft-partitioning' and goes on to note, "soft partitioning is not permitted as a means to determine or limit the number of software licenses required for any given server".

However I've just written about this in this thread, which might help you.

Please award points to any useful answer.
