vShield installation error

Hi,

I've got the vShield Manager installed and running.

But on the vShield agent, I got an error message when deploying the OVF. The error message is "Device VirtualVMXNet3 has a backing type that is not supported".

Is it because it is not yet compatible with ESXi? It deployed ok on ESX.

Regards

vShield supports both legacy and vDS switches and only in 4.0. However, there is a known issue when deploying in an evironment that has no legacy vSwitches. The workaround is detailed in this KB article1012440:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1012440&sl...

The error message in the KB article is slightly different but the end result and workaround is the same.

Are you using ESXi3 or ESXi4. It definitely works with ESXi4. If you are trying this on 3 it won't work. It shouldn't work on ESX3 either.

Fixed it. It did not work because of distributed vSwitch. Once I removed them, the OVF can be deployed.
