VMFS to SAN LUN Best Practices

I have 4 ESX hosts that will connect to my SAN. I will have about 8 VM servers on these and I want to utilize VMotion. What are the best practices for LUN sizing and the VMFS? Must the servers that are to uitlize VMotion be on the SAN LUN? Or is it just necesary that all ESX host have access to the same LUN's? Also it is recommened to created a single datastore that is one large LUN or is it better to have it span 3-4 smaller LUNS?

There are a lot of thread about this aspect, for example:

IMHO I suggest to use a couple of LUNs with a medium size.

The most important think (in most storage product) is that LUNs goes on different RAID Group and to give them to different storage processor.

As a general rule, try not to have too many VMs on too few spindles.

My favoured appraoch for production machines is no more than 20 . . preferably 15 VMs per LUN, but I do run up to 50, for non prod environments on a LUN.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
