How to convert VMWare Server based Cluster to ESXI 4.0

Hi,

I have a VMWare Server based VM cluster of 2 SQL Database server and I want to convert it to VMWare ESXi, how do I go about it? Using VMWare Standalone Converter I see the vmx files of the 2 Database server environments separately that are inside the cluster folder, there are 2 vmdk files Quorum and Shared that are outside the 2 database server folders. If I convert the 2 database servers and just copy the Quorum and Shared vmdk files in the ESXi will the cluster work normally OR will I have to configure the cluster again?

Looking forward to get some ideas.

Regards,

Nikhil

It is doubtful that copying the file over (VMDK file for the Quorum and Shared) will result on them being connected to correctly by the converted database severs. My recommendation would be to copy the files over and reconnect the nodes of the cluster to the shared storage and recreate the cluster, this will ensure you will not have any issue now or down the road. This is a little more work, however it will ensure proper cluster operations.

Hello,

Please close this question.

I would rather create a new cluster in VMWare ESXi instead of converting the cluster from VMWare Server to ESXi as there are far too many configurations and the conversion might not work as expected.

rather create a fresh cluster instead of converting cluster environments in ESXi due to the hassles involved
