Copy ESXi 4.0 VM outside ESXi server and start using it

Hi,

I want to know if it's possible to copy the VMs stored in the Datastore of ESXi 4.0 server that i can just upload outside the server, say in a workstation/external hard drive and start using it straightaway. The reason am asking is we have some scenarios whereby our demos are being done outside office and therefore you are required to carry the VMs in a laptop or external hard drive. I have been using VMWare Converter 4.0 to convert back the ESXi VM to VMWare Server but this is time consuming, is there any other way to do this process much faster or any VMWare product like player or workstation that can run ESXi VMs without conversion.

Looking forward to your feedbacks.

Nikhil

VMware Converter is the best choice and really one of the fastest.

I'm afraid there is not, Converter is your best option for this case.

Yes that is possible, but you will still need to download the VM which takes time and using the converter is a bit of a "cleaner" way to get the VM.

Either VMWare Convertor, or you could look at something 3rd party like PlateSpins PowerConvert

Either way, you'll effectively convert from one to the other . .

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

i'll recomend Acronis Backup with Universal Restore

then you can restore the backup to any REAL world hardware machine.

just make sure you have all the necessary drivers in a usb key during the restore process then it'll be a fast and painless restore.

it's the fastest solution of all the products and processes i've used in the past and now.
