Hi, We yesterday installed VMWare ESXi 4.0 in one of our server successfully. We tried to convert a physical node running in Windows XP with SP2 to a virtual node.
We used vmware converter 4.0 to convert and we directly stored the VM node in the ESXi server. After that when we start the virtual node, it is not booting up. An error message is displayed in the console as "A disk read error occurred. Press CtrlAltDel to restart". Can any one please help me out to boot this VNode?
Thanks
SafeBoot doesn`t help? Try to boot from CD and run chkdsk

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I again started the converter from step1. now i followed each step carefully as per the document. Added the sysprep files in the respective folder and now it is booting fine. Thank you.<!Session data>
I am having the same exact issue. How did you resolve this issue? I noticed you referred to a document. If possible can I have a copy of it?
Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the forums.
Please create a new question and include as much detail as you can about your issue.
When converting WindowsXP you need to pay attention to the Hard drive Controller options.
If you want to use the LSI-Logic controller (SCSI) you need to first install the LSI drivers inside of windows, prior to the conversion, else you get boot errors.
If you do not want to use the LSI controllers, you need to set the controller to BUS logic instead (again before the conversion, not after).
By default, vConverter will convert disks to 'scsi' so after thats been done its not easy to convert them to 'IDE'.
