Hello,
I would like to know if VMWare ESXi 4.0 supports SAN, NAS if so how does it work, how to configure and setup SAN/NAS in ESXi 4.0?
Currently I have one ESXi server installed in Dell PowerEdge 2950 server that has 5 x 300 GB hard drives configured as RAID5, am planning to add 2 more ESXi servers and also have disk storage.
Looking forward to get some feedback.
Regards,
Nikhil
Hi,
Yes it does support SAN/NAS/NFS just fine.
I've done a little tuto about the connection to a SAN...

Yes, ESXi fully supports SAN and NAS. Setup process is very easy and described in details in manual.
So, actually you're planning to have 3 hosts with local storage, not with SAN or NAS (shared storage)?

Yes Planning to have 3 ESXi 4.0 hosts and shared storage either SAN/NAS. Currently I dont have vCenter installed so all my hosts will be independent.
Thanks vladan for the document, will try out in my environment n let you know. But now atleast I know ESXi 4.0 supports SAN/NAS.

Depending what kind of software you will run in VM you will have to choose between SAN and NAS. In anyway, I would you recommend to try StarWind iSCSI SAN virtualization tool.
On their site I`ve just found useful tutorial for you, and dowload it you can there, either here (mirror on rocket division`s site)
I would recomend you to try one of theese ones:
-[StarWind|http://www.starwindsoftware.com/product-chart]
-[Datacore|http://www.datacore.com/]
-[Lefthand|http://search.hp.com/query.html?charset=iso-8859-1&lk=1&la=en&nh=10&st=1&rf=0&qs=&hpvc=sitewide&uf=1&qr=1&qt=left+hand&cqt=lefthand&sp=1]
As I know Datacore is pretty complicated, Lefhand is perfect , except the price. Openfiler is free but, commercial aplications are better when stuff is about support.
