DELL OPTIPLEX 755 with CORE 2 DUO-3.00

Hello

I am trying to find out if ESXi 4 runs with full 64Bit support on this machine.

- Does anyone know?

- Can anyone tell me where I can find out?

Thanks, Mart

Yes, you can.

I've done it proto-typing a build for a branch customer.

It ain't great in terms of performance, but it gets the job done for small scale stuff.

Thanks but I am done already with all the HCL, none of them gives clear information if 64BIT is supported or not.

Please answer to this post if you really know something. Thanks, Mart

A core duo CPU must support 64 bit mode.

See for example:

http://www.virtuallifestyle.nl/2009/06/virtual-lifestyle-running-on-esx-4/

But you have to check also storage and network compatibility.

I tried now with the ISO from VMWare 'VMware-CPU-Compatibility-e.x.p-160658' and that one always says NO... how did YOU get it to work?

Check BIOS setting to see if VT is enabled.

And also check for BIOS upgrade.

The CPU must support Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x). You can check here to see if that is the case. The BIOS for the server must also allow you to enable the setting.

I have a DELL Optiplex 755 with Core 2 Duo 3 GHz and 4 GB RAM and latest ESXi 4.0 works fine even with AHCI mode. The only problem is that ESXI does not detect the RAID arrays i create using Intel matrix raid storage manager (always shows all HDDs as single disks)
