JDE ERP 8.0 on VMWare

We are planning a JDE SP upgrade and wondering if anyone out there has had success running JDE Enterprise Servers on VMWare. We have VI3.5 and have had success with virtualizing many of our apps so far. From reading JDE forums some people note serious performance hits with JDE Enterprise in VMWare, but not sure if this is due to their lack of performance tuning or what?

Any successes or failures?

Thanks,

you can take a look here:

http://vmware.com/partners/virtualize_oracle_landscape.html

some docs require registration, but it is worth it

I am no expert on JDE, but if it uses Java it would require some tunning also

I'm not familiar with JDE neither but knowing vSphere 4.0 would virtualize any applications out there with 8 vCPU and 255GB of RAM and major performance enhancement and has beem demonstrated with Oracle database just fine. If JD Edward virtualize their infrastructure with Hyper_V solution, then you would have no problem with virtualizing it with vSphere 4.0 as you know the comparisons. I would consult with VMware PSO they would have more indepth with large scope deployment to give you better results.

I've done a JDE implementation on ESX 3.5 U1 without issues for a customer last year - had great results. All 4 implementations (DEV, TEST, UAT and PROD) were virtualised. I can't remember the exact details as it was a while back last year now - but the JDE servers that run the java virtual machine (I think it's the web server) will require 2 vcpu and at least 2GB mem.

Obviously performance tuning will need to be done on SQL/Oracle side of things too. We found the JDE deployment server quite resource intensive but still ran well virtualised.

remember that sometimes a user is installing an APP in VMware Worsktation, and that leads to believe that an enterprise app should not be virtualized

that happens a lot of times with my customers here in Mexico
