NIC Teaming only 3 of 4 nics

Hello all

ESX 3.5 Update 4

2 - Dual Port Intel MT 10/100/1000 PCI nics

Question: I recently decided to add a second dual port PCI Intel MT NIC to my ESX 3.5 server. After installing the NIC, I used the Vmware Client to claim the new adapters. Then I attempted to team them. However upon teaming, it showed 3 of 4 nics as online and the 4th as down. I checked the cables and its all connected with a working network port. The switch is a 10/100/1000 all is active.

The next thing I tried was to install a different NIC, this time a dual port PCI-X dual port Intel PT. The same thing happens only able to team 3 of 4 nics.

Any ideas?

You have a bad cable or switchport.

It is supported and should work. I've set up many environments with 3+ nics in a team. Please check: cabling, physical switch ports.
