esxi4 install on IBM x346 2 Xeon 2.8 4 GB RAM failed

Dear all,

i tried to install an IBm x345 with 2 Xeon Processors.

But the System told me: you haven´t 64bit hardware.

I use ESXi4.0 build 171294

can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot

Stefan

what CPU do you exactly have? And what's the exact error?

it's not mentioned on the HCL by the way: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/

Hi Duncan,

this is the output of IBM Parts:

2.8GHz/533MHz (512KB) upgrade with Xeon processor

71P8967

59P4845

This have i found somewhere in the net:

Produktbeschreibung:

Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz Prozessor

Produkttyp:

Prozessor-Upgrade

Prozessortyp:

Intel Xeon

Prozessoranz.:

1

Taktfrequenz:

2.8 GHz

Bus-Geschwindigkeit:

533 MHz

Cache-Speicher:

L2 Advanced Transfer Cache - 512 KB

Funktionen:

Streaming SIMD Extensions 2, Hyper-Threading-Technologie

The output of [http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/] is nothing if you select XEON

Is this correct?

BTW we have an other IBM Box: x336 also 4GRAM but a 3.06 XEON and it works fine

sorry for the table, i couldn´t delete ist

cheers

Stef

Sounds like the Prestiona Xeon, which is 32 bit. You need a 64-bit CPU for ESX 4.0.

I am almost certain that the CPU you have is a 32 bit (only) Pentium 4 "Netburst".

You need a 64 bit CPU for esx 4.0.

Thanks,

Ole

Hi,

Thank you all

The processors are 32bit with memory extensions. They are able to access a larger memory space but are not 64. The hardware may be 64bit and it may support replacing the current processors with 64bit versions but ???

I am using esxi 3.5 on my x345 with no problems , they are not 64bit cpu so you cant use esxi 4 .

That is correct: 3.5 does not require 64 bit CPUs but esxi4 does. You can find some more details here:
