I'm seeing the "no supported microcode levels for this stepping of AMD Family 10h B2 processor." with the AMD 9500 Phenom processor I just bought (posted about that problem just before this one). This got me thinking: if I were to replace the processor, what could I replace it with?
If you go to the hardware compatibilities guides you can filter a search to find out which processors on which systems are available.
I ran a filter and attached a PDF for you.
Check also for FT compatibility (if you want to upgrade to ESX4).
In this case you need Barcellona based AMD.

You have the AMD Phenom X4 9550.. cool. What motherboard do you have?
Ahh.. found the thread that held the key: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/212655
Apparently, the AMD Phenom X4 9x00 series, including the AMD Phenom X4 9500, has a bug in it that causes virtualization to fail. Argh.
I've called up the vendor and arranged an exchange/upgrade for a 9550. Hopefully, that will do the trick.
