Continuing Mouse-Grab Problems inside Virtual Machine

I have a Knoppix 4.0 Linux virtual machine which, for reasons related to maintenance of an existing application, I must keep available. Since upgrading to Fusion 2, I have been unable to get the virtual machine to accept mouse clicks once I have rebooted from the suspended state I keep as a reference copy. The problem still exists in 2.0.4, even after re-installing VMware Tools. Is there any prospect of getting this issue solved in a future update?

Just so you know Knoppix is based on Debian and neither are supported Guest OSes.

Since you have this issue when unsuspending I'd suggest not suspending and just shutdown the Virtual Machine when not in use.

BTW specifically what version of Knoppix are you using and did you install it or are you running it from the Live CD/DVD/ISO Image?

I do not know if this is applicable the Knoppix 4.x however I often use the Knoppix 5.1.1 CD/DVD ISO Image and with Fusion 2.x I've had to manually edit the target Virtual Machines .vmx configuration file to ensure the following parameters existed and set as shown below.

usb:0.deviceType = "mouse"
usb:0.present = "FALSE"
mouse.vusb.enable = "FALSE"

Also under Debian 5.0.1 I had to add the following to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in order for the mouse to grab/ungrab automatically under normal usage.

Option		"CorePointer"

Have a look at for specific information on adding this to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
