How many of you are upgrading to 4.0? Holding off?

Just wondering...how many of you 3.5 U4 users are going to be upgrading to 4.0, wait a few weeks? Months? Since this is a whole new version...what are everyone's thoughts on upgrading??

Well here is my story. on upgrading.

We had VC 2.5 as a physical, on this box we also had software that needed special hardware.

we had 4 hosts running 3.5 u4

one 3.5u4 uses direct storage and is not part of the cluster. (different company)

I build a new VM for VC 4.0, i installed the 2.5 license server for the ESX 3.5 hosts, and i copied and installed the license file.

I then disconnected the hosts from the OLD VC 2.5 one at a time, and brought them in to the new VC 4.0 cluster.

once that was done, i let it run for a day so i could get used to it.

I then Vmotioned the VM's off of one of the 3.5 u4 hosts and created an upgrade baseline, and applied it.

once that upgrade of the hosts was done i moved on to the next one. (each host only took about 20 min to upgrade give or take)

i then upgraded our (test VM's) with the new vmware tools, had a few problem with that, ie windows 2008, i had to remove and reinstall the tools on a few vm's.

once the tools where done on our test vm's i then upgraded the vm hardware on our Test VM's. when upgrading the vm hardware the vm's needed between 1 and 2 reboots to get the VM hardware all installed.

i then ran that for a day.

so far so good. i then upgraded the VMware tools for our live production system's. i have NOT yet upgraded the VM hardware on our live production yet.

somethings i have noticed is the vm's run FASTER. also our backup window went from 16 hours down to 12 hours by just upgrading from ESX 3.5u4 to 4.0

the backup window was the biggest shocker. i was not expecting that much of an improvmen.

this weekend i may upgrade our VM hardware for our live production environment.
