How many of you are upgrading to 4.0? Holding off?

Just wondering...how many of you 3.5 U4 users are going to be upgrading to 4.0, wait a few weeks? Months? Since this is a whole new version...what are everyone's thoughts on upgrading??

We've upgraded out dev/test environment, but for our production instances, we are probably going to wait for the .1 release of vSphere.

There is a lot of hardware that has been removed from the HCL for vSphere4, that should also be on your watch list too before you prepare for you upgrade.

Yeah I noticed that, everything I am running is on the HCL, except for some reason I dont see the new Dell R710 listed on the HCL, which is odd...

The majority of people I have talked to are holding off on the upgrade. We have also upgraded our test environment but are going to wait for the first update to consider putting it into production.

It will be months before I upgrade our production cluster(s), probably August+ timeframe, and no sooner than the first update.

I'd like to make sure the beta time-bomb is removed. I don't want my prod servers to have a time-bomb like last August. Smiley Happy

Nice to get a feeling what everyone's plans are for this big release. I am doing the same, upgraded my test environment and I am not planning on upgrading my production machines for a WHILE. Like you guys, I want to make sure everything is running correctly and there are no major time bombs, bugs etc. I only upgraded one machine in my test environment and so far, the vm's that are running on it are running slower than on 3.5, but I havent taken a look at everything close yet to see what is going on. Seems like alot of CPU usage on the host machine...not sure yet.

Won't be until we get our shiny new Nehalem based cluster in the next few months. The existing cluster will then be used as part of a DR site, so we'll probably do both at the same time and hope that SRM is updated in time to function with 4.0 Smiley Happy

For production environment I will wait that other VMware product (View, SRM, ...) and other 3th part product (Vizioncore, PlateSpint, ...) will be VS4 compatible.

We'll follow our usual practice - wait at least 6 months to qualify and implement vSphere.

We will also be upgrading only after 1st release - most probably in a few months time

Test Cluster will be upgraded soon.

Ori;

I'll be waiting until the .1 rlease as well, since I don't trust dot releases (despite the fact that I've been testing this for months).

Not yet, I will at least wait 6 to 8 months before I upgrade my production environment. I also want vSphere to fully support VMware view. I am thinking to do a fresh install rather than upgrade – I just had better luck with fresh installs for major releases.
