MattG,
EMC, Cisco and VMware doing joint partnerships for this new vSphere vStorage initiatives and Cisco Nexus v1000 switch so it wouldn't surprise all 3 companies actually wants to announced vSphere 4/21 release date because it enhance their products and services integrated with vSphere. Also, who's the daddy here? EMC owns VMware even though technically speaking VMware runs smoothly without those EMC politics.
Quick question, how does ESX 3.5 enterprise licenses apply to new vSphere though? Does it has different licensing costs or modules has to pay for each especially the vCenter Heartbeat, and Nexus v1000 and maybe other features need to pay as well. need price details VMware can't wait until 4/21 because people have tons of projects to plan ahead!

Here is EMC's announcement:
+EMC Corp. today unveiled a high-end Symmetrix storage array that is
based on Intel Corp.'s x86 quad-core processors and integrates VMware's
APIs to automate the provisioning of storage for virtual machines
across multiple tiers of disk drives, from solid-state to SATA.+
Sounds like EMC is joining Compellent in the storage virtualization game.

You should always patch ESX if the updates are required, more than often the Critical ones are!
Based on that article, it really does seem that EMC is moving towards the same model as Compellent. As a Compellent customer, I must say that these features are what peaked my interest in the Compellent system. We've had ours in place for a little over 2 years now, and we are very happy with the choice we made. I'm hoping that future revisions of ESX will be able to leverage the thin provisioning that Storage Center offers. The ability to migrate data between different tiers of storage is great for us, as it saves a significant amount of both storage, and money. I'm very interested to hear the announcement from VMware on the 21st, to see what they are really planning to do with everything.

I am a new Compellent customer as well. Our solution has been in production with 2 ESX hosts and VC for the past 2 weeks. Storage virtualization is the future. Just as server virtualization is set to dominate servers, storage virtualization will do the same.
I am pretty sure that:
a) Compellent will be certified for 4.0 when it is released
b) Compellent will be using the new vStorage API and leveraging this for thin provisioning of all VMware data. Currently, you lose Compellent TP if you create a template or use sVmotion (only for those VMs that you perform the job on).

Fresh details:

+In VMware's traditional market, larger datacentres, there are Standard,
Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus configurations, from $795 to
$3495 per CPU. According to which version of VI 3 they have, existing
customers on contracts will get a free upgrade to one or other of these
versions, gaining vStorage, vNetwork and other features.+

Hi ESX 4.0 is awsome... Just one question : Would it be possible to install and boot esx off a flash drive?
Hello,
Not really. ESX may run from a USB/flash device, but in general no. Not unless it was a Solid State Disk that spoke a supported disk type. For vSphere I would verify what you want to use is really on the HCL.
