"vmkfstools -P -h /vmfs/volumes_name" output clarification.

Hi

Just out of curiosity, I was playing around with the following command and realize that my local partition has different VMFS version than an iSCSI one!

Anyway knows what the reason is?

# vmkfstools -P -h /vmfs/volumes/iSCSI/

VMFS-3.31 file system spanning 1 partitions.

File system label (if any): iSCSI

Mode: public

Capacity 11G, 11G available, file block size 1.0M

UUID: 49e17834-94c8b702-a624-000c2904a9a0

Partitions spanned (on "lvm"):

vmhba32:0:0:1

# vmkfstools -P -h /vmfs/volumes/storage1\ ESX2/

VMFS-3.21 file system spanning 1 partitions.

File system label (if any): storage1 ESX2

Mode: public

Capacity 2.2G, 1.6G available, file block size 1.0M

UUID: 4682f0ca-e6a8e861-7cdb-000c29fc2752

Partitions spanned (on "lvm"):

vmhba0:0:0:3

Thanking you in advance,

VMFS-3.21 was created with ESX 3.0.2, you can find further details on this thread that explains the compatablity between VMFS-3.21 and VMFS-3.31 : http://communities.vmware.com/message/963043#963043

FYI - There also is not a major upgrade for vSphere, VMFS version is just a minor update to VMFS-3.31 and VM(s) residing on ESX 3.5 should continue to work on the next release without issues.
