    Starting up ESX server

    stonyHeng Novice

      Hi all,

Wonder whether if this is feasible:

      I have put in place a crontab that will automatically shutdown ESX service everyday at 1800 hrs using "Shutdown -h now";

but is it possible for the server to start up automatically everyday at 830 hrs?

      Just a thought.

not that i am aware of it...

Yes we can definitely change the state from init 3 to init 1..and when in init 1 can change back to init 3 when required....

Actually my initial intention is to power down the whole ESX server. But somehow "shutdown -h now" doesn't give me what I have expected. Is there any way I can totally power off the whole server without human intervention?

Next has anyone attempt on configuring the bios or stuffs like that to auto startup?

Many thanx for sparing time reading my question.

Even shutdown command has few switch to run shutdown at specified times but any way you can use /bin/poweroff command with cronjob and please check your system time before set corn

Normally with the command "/bin/poweroff", when the ACPI is on in

the BIOS the system shutdown and power off, when it is off the system

only shutdown (no ?) but for Andreas nothing append, for me the job do

                not run.

Andrea check the crontab and try to execute manually "/bin/poweroff" to

see if it work, and to do a power off like Mike say set APCI on in the BIOS.

                Best regards.

There is a script to use with that along with APC power utility somewhere on the forum just do a quick search you'll get it.
