Creating NFS datastore

HI

I have a ESX 3.5 U2 Cluster, and i'm trying to add a NFS datastore from a netapp filer. When i add it i get a error saying unabel to create /volume/vmfs/

I've allowed NFS thru the firewall, What else should i be looking for to get NFS going ?

Thanks

It looks like you are trying to add a Disk/LUN instead of a Network File System.

When running the "Add Storage Wizzard" select the "Network File System" option instead of "Disk/LUN"

You are prompted for a server and a folder.

Hey,

You must create a vmkernel port group with a IP address to connect with the NAS drive.

Then, as Steven has said, go through the Add storage wizard and choose NFS.

Hi,

For NFS datastore, ESx does not use the service console network configuration.

Bfore creating NFs datastore, you need to crerate a VMKernel network.

This can be done in Configuration > Networking > Add network, there selct for VMkernel.

Also configure the default gateway when prompted.

Now try to add the NFS datastore. ESx firewall does not stop this NFs datastore from vmkernel gateway.

If this does not work, can you let me know what are the logs in /var/log/messages, /var/log/vmkernel, /var/log/vmkwarning.

Solution

Go to FilerView or the command line and change the qtree security to UNIX.

Command line example:

qtree security /vol/<vol_name> unix

Hi

Turns out there is a issue with the netapp if you run the above then this will fix it and it'll work a treat..

Thanks DGWS the qtree security /vol/<volume name> unix worked.

Also you can do this through the filer view > volumes > qtree > manage
