OK, from an earlier post I was messing around with the vmware-authd conf file.....probably shouldn't have done this but at least this is a test server... So now I cannot connect to the host with the VI client although I can use the same credentials and login with SSH. What can I check on the host?

Jamie

What can I check on the host?
firewall?
first check if you are able to ping the esx server from VC server.......
Check the user permission on the VCenter........
Try restarting vpxa, hostd agent on the host......
Please let me know if you are able to solve it.......................
Jamie mentioned connecting from VI client to the ESX Host. So there is no vCenter involved.

thanks for pointing out....
Ok, a quick service call and the vmware tech was able to figure this one out. When the pam.d vmware-auth file was edited in a way that left an extra character, so all logins except through ssh were disabled. When the file was corrected and the service restarted all was well.....
