forgot the password

forgot the root password to esx3.5 but my VC has it cached and it is working fine. Is there any way to change the password without rebooting the esx?

There's no way without a reboot. Two in fact. So if you've got ESX is in a cluster, VMotion your VMs off the ESX server onto another, and reboot it.

At the first menu type "a", then

at the prompt type "single", then

at the prompt type "passwd" and enter, then

type in your new password and then enter. then

type "reboot".

What Tait said is correct. Here is a link that provides the same instructions as already posted however with screenshots.
